Science Articles : COLOR PATTERNS IN PLANTS
If someone does not contemplate, one can not see the characteristics of the extraordinary creatures around him. As long as someone is not thinking about how butterflies fly with wings bermembrannya, how does one see the flowers and has a variety of colors, how the top branches of the hundreds of trees hundreds of feet high as it remains green, people can not understand the ins and outs of this. Even the remarkable works of art contained in a flower may escape the attention of someone.
However, a perfect work of art is clearly displayed in all living creatures from insects to birds, from plants to marine creatures. Of course the artwork belongs to Allah that became the Creator of all living things.
Let’s think about plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and trees. Plants, each having a different color, mewangian and flavor, is proof of the artwork in God’s creation. Any plants you see around you or you know of a book has a color and pattern that is specific to its type. The process of reproduction of each different type, the proportion of nectar contained in it and smells are all different too. Let’s think about roses. There is a red, white, yellow, orange, pink, white edged, double color, even the roses in shades of color. Of course, this will be a real blindness to someone who does not feel amazed to see all this and not see keMaha power of God, The creator of all these flowers.
In the Qur’an, Allah refers to those who fail to appreciate the signs of creation which they see as follows:
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن آيَةٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُمْ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضُونَ
And how many a sign within the heavens and earth do they pass over while they, therefrom, are turning away. (QS YUSUF.12 : 105)
وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ بِاللّهِ إِلاَّ وَهُم مُّشْرِكُونَ
And most of them believe not in Allah except while they associate others with Him. (QS YUSUF.12 : 106)
Have you ever wondered why plants are green? As clearly seen, the prevailing color in the plant world is green and greenish shades. Chlorophyll is the main substance that produces a green color. Chlorophyll, a substance which is very important, namely a pigment contained in chloroplasts are scattered in the cytoplasm of plant cells. These pigments absorb light coming from the sun very easily, but the pigment is only reflecting the green color only. In addition to providing a green color to leaves, this process also leads to fulfillment of an important process called “photosynthesis”.
In photosynthesis, plants utilize the sun’s rays, which consist of combinations of different colors. One of the most important properties of the colors in sunlight is that their energy levels differ from one another. variety of colors is called the spectrum, for example, obtained by refracting colors in a prism has shades of red and yellow at one end, and blue and purple on the other end. Color with the highest energy level are colored blue are at the end instead of the spectrum.
The difference between the energy levels of the colors are very important for plants, because they require large amounts of energy for photosynthesis. For this reason, during photosynthesis, plants absorb sunlight from the highest energy level is towards the end of the ultraviolet spectrum, the colors violet and blue as the color that led to the infrared (heat) at the end of the spectrum, namely red, orange and yellow. The leaves do all this process through chlorophyll pigments in chloroplasts.
In plants to make the process photosintesa, particle energy levels of light absorbed by chlorophyll substances should be enough. The process begins when the plant photosynthesis, with the energy it receives from the particles of light, split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen molecules. Hydrogen reacts with carbon to form carbon dioxide gas in the sap of the plant is very important for plants to survive. In other words, plants produce their own food. Oxygen is not used, on the other hand, is released into the air. Most of the oxygen we breathe in the atmosphere generated in that way.
As a result of the process of photosynthesis in plants, they produce carbohydrates, one of the major food source for other living creatures. Substances produced during photosynthesis is essential for plants themselves as well as for animals and humans, because plants are the main source of food of all living things on earth.
As we have seen, in addition to providing a beautiful appearance, the green color in plants is also very important for the survival of plants and other living things. Allah makes chlorophyll as a feeding substance for the survival of plants and all other living things.
